Hey guys, I know this is a long way off, but Pinnacle has the lines up already for the winners of Euro 2008. Thought I'd post the odds here and maybe get some discussion going. I love the Euro as I feel is the toughest tourney to win, moreso than the World Cup as the strength of opposition is tougher.

Germany is the favourite at +431, with the longest shot on the board being Austria at a whopping +10500. I personally love Italy at +763, as I believe they have the perfect combo of defence and offense, and I think being in the group of death forces them to come out strong and focused. For a medium longshot bet, I like the Czech Republic at +1371, as I feel they have a strong enough squad to contend.

Here are the full odds:

I'm taking Croatia to win their group stage and the tournament as well =) They were the only team to beat Israel away from home and they are the only team in the history of Euro to beat England home and away at the Wembley. Their attacking is great, if they just step their defense up once the tournament gets going I think they have a great chance.

I don't have a clue what it was as I wasn't into sports betting in 2004, but don't expect another cinderella run from Greece this time around. I'm pretty sure the books made a killing during Euro 2004, there were so many upsets, it was unreal. I remember the feeling of disbelief of Greece winning the whole tourney.

The final was played on July 4, and was almost a replay of the opening game: the host Portugal versus Greece. Greece won 1-0 with a single goal from a corner via Angelos Charisteas' head on the 57th minute. The success of Greece, who had never won a single match in their previous appearances in any finals tournament, was totally unexpected (Bloomberg reports that UK bookmakers gave them 100-1 odds at winning prior to the tournament), but their organisation and solid defensive play took their opponents and the rest of the football world by surprise.

Greece was 9875 to 1 to win it all.

Long shots that I will play: Czechs / Netherlands.

Realistic plays:
Spain / Germany / Italy.

(France out first round)

But of more value:

June 6th:
Czech at pk and -0.5 -103 vs Switzerland

And even better:June 7th

Croatia -0.5 -117 against Austria.

dont count greece out just yet...even i couldnt believe it when they won and im greek.

i even bet against them in the finals against portugal. just goes to show you anyone with half a chance can win.

it will be tough to beat the germans .

my long shots gonna be holland also.

(i forget what book i was in but i was in vegas before the tounament that year and i saw them at 70-1)

Spain is my favorite...Iker in goal with torres and villa up front...thats serious problems for the opposition
Italy is getting to old, i think Holland and Spain have the best shots...

but for me the best future bet of the tournament would be to take Ronaldo at top goal scorer of the tourney. Although no lines have surficed yet, believe that he will be the favorite. He will take all free kicks and pens for Portugal.

I'll definitely be getting in on a Holland futures bet. Great goalie (VDS), a million attackers (Ruud, Robben, Kuyt, Babel, etc), solid MF (Sneijder, van der Vaart, de Jong, Seedorf), and steady defense. Of course Portugal and Spain regularly show that talent is not enough

Italy won't win. Don't think they'll even do well in their group.

Germany is a lock to Win Group B. I feel they're also a lock to get to the Finals. In the knockout stage it'll be Group A/B, no interaction with C or D. So the Germans will be facing the likes of Croatia, Czech's or the Portugese. On the other side of the bracket is Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Greece.

As the outright goal scorer, I am loving Miroslav Klose as the top goal scorer (9-1). I like them going deeper than Portugal (Ronaldo) who's 10-1 and taking someone from France (Henry), Holland (Van Perisie, Ruud) or Italy (Luca Toni) is too risky.

Don't trust Spain. Portugal has no guys up top. Holland would be a hell of a pick, but their national team recently has been awful.

i agree croatia are a sleeper but much rather Holland at 15.00 than Croatia at 13.00 for the talent factor

Croatia are incredible when they play in Zagreb but these matches aren't in Zagreb

I see any bets on Czechs to be a complete waste of money as well

Croatia can win elsewhere as well....remember Wembley Stadium, England..? Plus each member is guaranteed 300,000 Euros for winning it..., now thats incentive....
Holland - intriguing.....

of course I remember Wembley but the game before that they lost by 2 in Macedonia. I just don't think they are strong enough to win it all but a group bet at 3.75 is not a bad idea. I'm not a big Germany fan and the Ger/Cro match will decide the group
